Garden Wonderland

Master Gardener, Patty Thayer, has turned her yard into a garden wonderland, with paths, plants, and colorful flowers at every turn. A large deck plus small spots to sit provide areas to relax and refresh. The garden is embellished by the work of Artist Blacksmith, Doug Thayer (Patty’s husband).

Our plein air painting group was invited to paint in their garden again this year. Deciding what to paint is the most difficult part. The flowers were incredible, blooming everywhere. I chose the steps to the deck where this ceramic blue lantern joined in the color celebration.

Sweet Violets

In Michigan any break from winter weather is cause for shifting to spring jackets, washing the car, and general celebrating. My African Violet wanted to be the first flowers to burst into bloom and did so with great gusto.

I won this little beauty at my niece’s bridal shower 5 years ago. It was a lovely affair where a normally beautiful living room was transformed into an enchanting event for ladies to chat and laugh and tease the bride-to-be, with wonderful food and presents and these flowers on each table. The flowers became door prizes and I won one!

I didn’t think it would live 3 months. Never thought it would bloom again. When it finally did bloom again I had a feeling. I wondered if my niece, now married for a while, was pregnant. Yes she was! Wow. Those are some violets.

Dog Lovers

When I graduated from university I moved to Texas to get away from the cold Michigan winters. After 3 years I moved to California to get away from the hot Texas summers. 23 years later due to emotional circumstances, some insanity I’m sure, and love of family, I moved back to Michigan. I’m lucky. I work at home and don’t have to commute in the snow and cold in the winter.

When I look out my studio window to see what’s going on in the neighborhood I see the dog lovers, dedicated to walking their dogs every day, no matter how cold. The pet guardians are all bundled up, trudging along. Smaller dogs get the benefit of a sweater or coat. One is a runner with a dog that looks happy to be running too. Until the necessary stop comes. I don’t know what they can smell in the snow.

But it’ll be in the 50s this week and the snow is starting to melt. Spring is 10 days away and is oh so anticipated and appreciated in Michigan.

This painting, “Dog Walker” is available, 6×6″ acrylic on panel. If you would like to purchase this painting, please send your bid by email. Starting at $75.00.SOLD
