Visiting Van Gogh

Visiting Van Gogh

I’ll never forget the first time I saw a real Van Gogh painting in person. I was in awe. When I saw Van Gogh it was as if all the other people in the museum and the museum itself melted away and I was alone in the universe with it. I swear I heard whispering in my ear.

I didn’t realize how much it had affected me at first. I had been painting washy, pastel-colored watercolors. After that trip to the Chicago art museum I was painting bold, rich colors, practically using them right out of the tube. I switched back to painting in oils so I could build up the paint more.

Now, whenever I find myself getting too tight with my technique I visit Van Gogh.

“Visiting Van Gogh” is available, 6×6″ acrylic on hardboard panel unframed. If you would like to purchase this painting, please send your bid by email. Starting at $50.00. SOLD

  1. The first time I saw a real Van Gogh was 7th grade at the DIA. It was a self portrait, and I was amazed at all that colorful paint on the canvas! You can’t see that in a reproduction. Love your painting!
